© 2007 Bif Ward

Bif Ward once spent three weeks helping a relocating family find just the right home in Indianapolis. When the family moved into their new home, their daughter asked plaintively, "Where is Bif's room?"

The story illustrates just how close Ward gets to her clients. "I love my job. I love all my clients," she says.

In the 24 years that Ward has been a Realtor for F. C. Tucker Company, Inc., she has represented more than 3,000 clients. She's the top producing sales associate for Tucker-the largest real estate management and brokerage firm in Indiana and in the top 28 independently owned real estate firms in the United States-and is ranked in the top 1 percent of Realtors nationwide.

Yet Ward doesn't think of her sales in terms of dollars. Early in her career, she decided she wanted a baby grand piano, so she made it her goal to earn one. After meeting that goal, she set more, including sending her two daughters to college.

"I set 10 goals a year. New ones, every year," she says. "People laugh at me, but I have them in my bedroom on my mirror. I know that I'm going to do $10 million in production, but it's just more fun and more of an incentive for me if I make a list of what I want."

A native of Indianapolis and a graduate of North Central High School, Ward earned a degree in marketing from the University of Miami. After finishing school, she returned immediately to Indianapolis and a sales job at Wm. H. Block department store. After years in retail, Ward switched to real estate, thinking she might have more time for family.

Fat chance. Ward instead became a living legend in Indianapolis real estate by working non-stop, seven days a week.

"It takes that to do what I do," Ward says. "I don't sleep a lot. My private time is from about 11 p.m. on. But I love to be busy. I don't know if I'd want it any other way."
